The Vision of the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture is to achieve excellence in tertiary education, research, skill development and outreach in all aspects of the aquatic environment, aquaculture and fisheries sciences and allied sectors
The mission of the department is to be the leader in tertiary education, research, skill development and outreach in the fields of aquaculture and fisheries production, product processing and allied sectors that would ensure environmentally friendly fisheries and aquaculture sector.
To produce graduates that are sufficiently equipped in theoretical and practical knowledge of fisheries and aquaculture which will enable them to play active roles in their individual, social and national development.
The main objectives of the Bachelors’ degree programme in Fisheries and Aquaculture are:
- To raise practically and theoretically sound manpower in Fisheries; who will not only be employers of labor but will also serve as sources of manpower for fisheries establishments in Nigeria and throughout the world.
- To engage in fish production and purposeful research that will solve global fisheries development problems, and increase the contribution of fisheries to the gross national product in Nigeria.
- To equip students with good management skills in fish production, processing and aquacultural practices that will revolutionize and boost fish production and the utilization of the nation’s vast water resources
The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture was established at the inception of the 2011/2012 Academic session. The department currently runs a 5-year Bachelor’s Degree programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Fisheries and Aquaculture (B. Fisheries and Aquaculture)
